Summer Theatre, NY Supper and Sugar Cookies!Happy National Sugar Cookie Day! That's right, today, July 9th is the day we celebrate the Sugar cookie. Did you know that the sugar cookie originated here in the United States in the 1700's in Nazareth, Pennsylvania with the development of the first sugar cookie recipe by German Protestant settlers. In fact, these sweets were called Nazareth cookies and adopted by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as its official cookie! To read more about the history of the sugar cookie, AND for some delectable recipes, check out this link. Today, because of horse shows, there are no riding lessons at the barn for the girls. So, instead, we are going to do some shopping for horse riding supplies. Both girls need new riding boots and breeches as they have outgrown their current ones. We are going to head back to Westhampton Beach following our little spree for some lunch at Margarita Grille. This is one our favorite restaurants out here and we frequent it often. In fact, check back on Foodie Friday to read more about this Mexican eatery. I am having so much fun being a "tourist" here on Long Island. Tomorrow, I'm headed to The Long Island Museum to see their collection of antique horse drawn carriages, for which this Stoney Brook Museum is best known. I've also been spending a great deal of time researching more and more about the abundance of theater companies and performance centers here on Long Island. Please catch my blurb about 2014 Summer Theatre events. Both of these Long Island features will be posted on our Travel Blog and Long Island Area pages tomorrow. Last, but certainly not least, Tanya and I were chatting about her upcoming trip to New York and the east coast next week late yesterday afternoon. She was telling me how she was packing, when I had a great idea for one of the days she is here. Her and her gang will be going to see a Yankees Game, which is of course, in the Bronx. I suggested that we meet up after the game and go for dinner that same evening in Little Italy in the Bronx. Most people are not aware, that the Belmont Section of the South Bronx exists and has more restaurants and shops than any of its rival Italian neighborhoods elsewhere. Here is a wonderful website about this historic, Italian neighborhood and the famous "Arthur Avenue", which boasts great shops and of course, authentic, delicious Italian food! Consider making a trip to Arthur Avenue after seeing the Bronx Bombers or exploring the Bronx Botanical Garden. Well, that's it for now - off to start my day!! See you back here tomorrow - same bat time, same bat channel!! -E | It's Somebody's Birthday! While it was a surprise to me that today in National Sugar Cookie Day, it'll probably be an even bigger surprise to my brother Michael! It's Michael's birthday today, and while he isn't always as sweet as a sugar cookie I still love him and wish him a very Happy Birthday! Maybe we should consider sticking a candle in a sugar cookie instead of a cake from now on?! LOL Anyhow, I expect the delivery from Justice to arrive today, so that I can finish packing for Cosette. And then move onto packing for myself! While chatting with Elisa about my packing habits, she suggested that I write an article about my method - a how to on “Color Coordinated Packing" Luv it! What a great idea! I'll also be finishing up my Throwback Thursday - taking you back to circa 2007, Victoria BC or BUST! Okay, so shall we start taking polls? Are you all on the bashful side, a wee bit shy? Comments people! Reach out and say "hello"! You guys are all like little church mice! Make some noise! Where do you think we should go? What suggestions do you have for the places that we'll already be traveling to? Do you have any questions about places that we've already been? I was very happy to check off one of our last items on our UK to do list (have you checked out the UK planning page yet?)! We finally ordered our tickets to the 2014 Tony Award Winner 'A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder' last night. Terrific! Only 27 more days to go! Yup I'm counting down!! And only 5 more days to go before we get to NYC! While on the upcoming trip to NY, and the east coast we'll be heading up to Lake Winnipeasaukee in New Hampshire for a mini family reunion (I have a rather huge family and this is but a itty bitty partial sub-group that goes up every year). We'll also be seeing the kids paternal Grandpa who lives in NH, as well as their uncle who is coming up from Long Island to visit with us while we see his Dad. We'll be spending a couple of days in Boston, catching a Red Sox game, touring Fenway park, and going to the Museum of Science. Then to back to NY, we'll be seeing Aladdin (together with Elisa, Danielle and all the kids), we'll be reunited with my Aunt and Uncle (Elisa's and Danielle's parents), catching a Yankees game and meeting up for a lovely Italian dinner in Little Italy in the Bronx. Which as quoted off of the Arthur Avenue website - As one food critic put it recently, “The restaurants of Arthur Avenue make Mulberry Street’s look like stepchildren of the Olive Garden.” And you should all know how REAL ITALIANS feel about the Olive Garden! Luv that quote! Also on this trip we'll be heading to Philadelphia for a weekend of fun, including seeing a Phillies game while there! Not to worry, you won't miss a beat! I'll be posting the entire time I'm out there! And this my friends is one of the reasons that Elisa and I started this Travelin' Cousins Blog! We do hope that you enjoy our blog just as much as we enjoying sharing our stories and lives with you! Until Tomorrow, -T |
