Goodbye Albuquerque - Hello TaosGood day friends! So today is a very busy day - lots on our agenda as we make our way from Albuquerque to Taos. We will be checking out of our hotel first thing this morning and making our way to the following sights today: Giant Red Arrow Petroglyph National Monument Bandelier Monument Kasha Katuwe Tent Rock National Monument Because we will be on the road, we need to post our Daily before we get going. Therefore, we will give you the full account and some great photos in tomorrow's Daily! As for now, I want to show and tell you all about our amazing Sunday yesterday! I was feeling really under the weather on Saturday for the opening day of Balloon Fiesta, so I stayed behind when the gang went. But, yesterday was a different story -- I was bright eyed and bushy tailed and up and at 'em by 4am to go! The fiesta was filled with lots of vendors selling everything from food, to souvenirs to even, limited edition Pandora (R) charms. (I did scoop up the "Balloon" charm as a memento) Now, unfortunately, yesterday was very windy -- so much so, that they could not launch the balloons - :-( This was very sad for me since I never got to see an ascension. But, the good news is that many of them were blown up, so I did get to be up close and personal with these huge magnificent balloons! I loved the cow the best!! HOWEVER!! what a surprise this morning - the balloons launched today at the park and they came sailing past our hotel!!! Tanya & I ran out (not showered - looking a little mangey - and captured a bunch of shots this morning!!! Unfortunately, I cannot upload them at the moment - but see Tanya's Daily today - she uploaded a bunch!! We made our way over to the Hot Air Balloon Museum, which was chock full of facts and information about the history and functionality of the hot air balloon. I never realized how much they were used in times of war and that there were hot air battalions in our own US Army. An arts & crafts room was amiable for kids and Kelsey enjoyed herself making a Balloon Fiesta journal! Next stop -- Sandia Peak!! This was really such a cool sight to see! To finally be at this place that we read so much about The line was about an hour to get the tickets to ride the tram and then another 10 or so before boarding. They tram accommodates about 50 people at a time and goes about 22 feet per second, according to our guide. I looked "out" but not "down" lol because we were over 2000 feet high. It was an incredible perspective to be so close to the rock formations. Once at the top - it was pretty breathtaking! Alittle freaky, I will say! So, my day started off wonderfully - seeing that sky full of balloons!! More from Taos and all about our road trip today! Have an adventurous day!! -E | Heading to Taos, NMHappy Travelin' Monday! We have another busy day planned and I am running behind schedule! Everything was going peachy keen and then I spotted the Mass Ascension floating by right outside our hotel window!! So of course I stopped everything else that I was doing and had to take pictures! I sent Elisa a text and told her to take a look! We then ran outside to get some better shots (while still almost in our jammies!) I always wanted to come to the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, but until I say the time lapse youtube video (shared on the NM Road Trip Blog), I never put it in my schedule. Now that I'm here, I feel a bit balloon crazed! Who knew I loved hot air balloons so much?! Anyhow, I'm gonna keep it very short and sweet as for today...simply because we've gotta run! Elisa has filled you in on much of the goings on as of yesterday and what's on our itinerary for today. I'll be back with more scoop on the daily tomorrow! See ya back here on Travelin Tuesday from Taos, New Mexico! -T PS. please check our FaceBook page later today for pictures from the AWESOME "GLOW"! |
