Gotta luv those 3 day weekends - not only do they give you an extra day for fun, but they also bring you back a day closer to the next weekend!
Beautiful skies on the way to Dominic's classes.
Well folks it was a SCORCHER yesterday, and it's suppose to be even worse today and tomorrow! UGH I was just MISERABLE! I couldn't get much done, because all of my energy was ZAPPED! I really don't like when that happens.
So before the heat really kicks in I started today off with banging out some exercise. At least I'll know that I got that accomplished!
Coinciding with W2GW (Where to go Wednesday)... Our butts have to be whipped into shape for a few upcoming events that we are participating in and that I believe registrations are still open for:
1. The Long Beach Marathon - Bike Tour
JetBlue presents this 31st annual event for the city of Long Beach, and this will be our 6th time riding the course before the runners take to the streets. This year Dominic will be joining in on the fun and pedaling right along side us! FOR MORE INFO CLICK HERE
2. The Gladiator Rock 'N Run
This will be the third event of the type that we are participating in! If you are mentally and physically ready to fully get into BEAST MODE - COMMIT - CRUSH - CONQUER then this event is just for you! Registration is still open...come on over to the famous Rose Bowl for the workout of your life! Or, if you aren't tough enough...you can always come out and root us on! FOR MORE INFO CLICK HERE
Other less strenuous things that you can go to and have some fun at are:
The LA County Fair is still up and running!
We'll be there on September 20th, when the kids with be performing with their choir. It's usually rather hot out there - so be sure to stay hydrated and keep cool! FOR MORE INFO CLICK HERE
LA County Fair (2010)
The 31st annual Tall Ships Festival will be held in Dana Point this weekend.
Every year a fleet of historically significant sailing vessels comes to join our ships at Dana Point. They come not only to display their beauty and majesty but also to share with the public a maritime history that is inextricably part of California's past, a heritage we work hard to preserve as we educate future generations about our oceans. It is in support of this effort that we assemble these great ships for all to experience. FOR MORE INFO CLICK HERE
Be sure to check out Elisa's column to read all about her visit to the US Open!!! Aside from how HOT it was - I would've loved to go! Not sure how they play tennis in that awful heat tho?!
As far as today goes I'm just gonna try my best to stay cool. BORING! But the good thing about it, is that it'll keep me sitting long enough to work on some of my upcoming trips, some writing, and maybe even get some online Christmas shopping out of the way!
I'll let you know how well I survive tomorrow...

U.S. Open Day Too Hot to Enjoy
I'm sitting here thankful that the temps have cooled a bit. Yesterday was HOT!!!!
As you may remember, I headed to the U.S. Open yesterday, and wish I had more positive things to say about it.
Now, I realize the weather was not anyone's fault, so I can't get angry at the US Tennis Center for the heat factor. Sitting in the stands in the blazing sun was torturous. I was literally wilting.
In any case, let me back track to my arrival at the U.S. Tennis Center. It really was a very un-enjoyable experience.
First of all, I packed a nice back pack full of water bottles, sun screen and other personal items - making it easy to carry and convenient.
Well, as we are approaching the entrance, I start to hear announcements that back packs were not allowed! Can you imagine!! So, I immediate, unhooked the straps and held it by the short handles to look like a hand bag.
Ok, so that worked. But, then as they are going through my bag, prior to going through the metal detector, I'm informed that my sunscreen is not allowed to be brought in!! It's 150 degrees out, our seats are in the sun and I can't bring my sunscreen in???
I'm informed that because it's in a metal can, it poses a "danger." Really???
So, there I am, with a new can of sun screen and I have to use it right there and then get rid of it!! I was fuming!!! I was spraying my arms and legs and with every spray, I was complaining about how absurd these rules are.
I wound up giving my brand new can of sunscreen to some guy on line.
This just put me in a bad news. Of course, you already know how much I DESPISE the heat, so I was already sweating and poised for a bad mood.
Needless to say, I tried to enjoy the match, but I was way too hot!!! I have no idea how they were able to play tennis! Even Tedd, who is a Tennis buff, could not enjoy it because of the heat.
We stayed as long as we could, enduring the heat. Who could have known it would be such an unusually hot day?!
I managed to take a few pictures.
On a good note, the seats were amazing! Tedd snagged great ones!! The Tennis Center also has a great food court with a wide variety of food with a great seating area!
My suggestion to you, if you plan to go, would be to try to go at night, to at least insure greater comfort if the temps happen to be hot!
