What's the Definition of...
Hey Hey Hey!
One question that I am constantly being asked is: Where's your next vacation?
While I of course luv taking about travel, I just have my own personal little issue with the term "Vacation".
So instead of answering immediately, I think I must cringe a bit and then reply with another question... Do you mean the next place I'm going? Or actual vacation? Because to me these are 2 VERY different things.
I've said it before, there are Vacations, Get-Aways, Trips, etc. The term vacation is reserved for bigger and more elaborate trips. They are all "trips".
But not everyone sees it the same as I do. What REALLY irks me are the ones who take "vacation" from work and stay at home - doing NOTHING and telling people that they are on vacation... Let me go chuckle for a bit.
THE DEFINITION OF VACATION: An extended period of recreation, especially one spent away from home or in traveling.
While for my own purposes I really do focus on the "extended period" part. But that's just me.
So back to the question of where's my next vacation; once I correct the terminology, and it's clear to everyone that my next "vacation" isn't until I will be going on a trip for an "extended period" of time, only then can I comfortably answer where my next "trip" will be!
THE DEFINITION OF TRIP: An act of going to a place and returning; a journey or excursion, especially for pleasure.
And now how's about Staycations...
THE DEFINITION OF A STAYCATION: A vacation spent in one's home country rather than abroad, or one spent at home and involving day trips to local attractions.
For my own personal usage of the term, as you could imagine I only agree partially with the explanation; A. If you are leaving your home for at least an overnight stay and involving day trips to local attractions. This is a Staycation. B. Just staying at home whether you take day trips of not, is not a "cation" anything. It's called going out and being at Home. C. If you are taking a "trip" within your own country that is definitely waaaaay more than a Staycation, and can sometimes qualify as a "Vacation".
So with all of that being said... This time of this year seems a bit mellow, I have planned no "vacations" only "trips" that are "get-aways" and "staycations".
Dave and I will be heading up to Los Angeles for a Staycation/Date weekend.
Dave, the kids, myself, Jet, Chaplin, and Andrew will be going on a camping "trip" to Joshua Tree National Park!
Dave, the kids, and myself will be going on a weekend of mystery to Yosemite National Park.
Dave, the kids, and myself will be taking another "staycation" and going to Catalina Island.
And all of that is just for the month of November!
Which is in addition to Thanksgiving and Dominic's birthday of course.
Now how's about a little SCOOP?!
Yesterday I had taken Cosette, Jet, and Chaplin to the Stables.
I was so glad that the weather has cooled down ever so slightly, but I had hung out in the shade with Chaplin, and Jet had complained about how hot she was...
The rest of the day was filled with choir: rehearsal, business, plans, etc...
And today is just an average nothing special Tuesday. I hope that you have a lovely day no matter what type of Tuesday you are having!
Meet ya back here tomorrow for W2GW :) -T

Getting the Best Airline Flight Prices
Good day folks!! How are you doing this fine Tuesday?
I can't tell you how happy I am to wake up to sunshine!
Today I've got a lot of errands to do. Have to get the girls materials for making their Halloween costumes.
I also have to work on a school project with Kelsey and of course, I'll be doing the normal, everyday after school routine of snacks, homework and studying.
Ahh, the life of a mom. Wouldn't have it any other way!!
So, let's get chattin' about my favorite subject...Travel!!
It is customary for us cousins to discuss upcoming trips, but today, I thought I'd focus on some travel tips instead!
I'm sure everyone would love to hear some advice on how to get the best prices for airline tickets.
Here are three great tips as well as a few online sites that can assist you!
1. Be Flexible Many times, we are very specific with the days we like to travel. With a little flexibility, you may be able to save big bucks.
For instance, most online sites will show you what dates the rates are lowest. If you are able to take advantage of these travel dates, you will probably get a great deal.
Spontaneity can pay off as well if you can book last minute. Great deals can be garnered from third party sites with the goal of filling empty seats that just lose the airlines money.
2. Purchase Tickets the Right Day We have all heard the rumors that buying airline tickets on "certain" days will save you money -- well, it's true!
According to Kim Komando, she suggests using Kayak since "...it's a great search site that scours sites like Priceline, Travelocity, Expedia, Hotwire and eDreams to show you an extensive list of airfare prices for you to compare."
Additionally, she adds, "Kayak will also give you a really handy calendar that shows you how the price fluctuates by day."
3. Using the Right Online Sites Matter The biggest obstacle to finding great deals, is not being able to compare. With the right sites you can get a birds eye view of the best airline deals available.
One site that offers this capability is GoogleFlights, which allows you to compare flights by cost and airports. We're all pressed for time, but using the right sites, on the right days and being flexible can result in some kick-butt savings!
MOVING AHEAD...tomorrow is W2GW! As you know, I recently made it over to Grand Central in New York City and highly recommend checking out this historic train station!
I'll be giving you the low-down tomorrow with some videos of your's truly as well as my visit to the New York City Transit Museum inside Grand Central.
