Elisa's Daily Scoop NEXT TRIP DEPARTS IN: STILL DECIDING
Tasting Room Fun
Yippee - it's Friday.
I'm rarely excited for the weekend because I feel as if the routine and "movement" of the work week comes to a grinding halt.
But, I have to say, I'm excited about this weekend. I think I'm going to do something fun on Sunday but I'm not quite sure what!!
What really freaks me out lately is how grown up my girls are getting!
Gianna is now hanging out with her friends after school, going to eat by herself, making plans. What happened to my little baby?!
Here on Long Island, the weather is about ready to act like November, so things are going to get a bit chillier out.
As I was thinking about what to write, considering it's Foodie Friday here on Travelin' Cousins, I thought - what if we focus on DRINKING instead of eating!!
As you may know there are over 40 wineries on Long Island and with the temps getting a bit brisk, much of the outdoor festivities at the wineries is now moving indoors, and some of the experiences are super unique make for a fantastic day spend out on the north folk.
Check out my Top 3 picks:
McCall TASTING ROOM: 22600 MAIN ROAD, CUTCHOGUE, NEW YORK 11935 P 631-734-5764 Having begun in the 1990's as a grower and seller of its pinot noir grapes, this Cutchogue-based winery is fairly new to selling wine under the McCall label, beginning in 2007. However, McCall has already made its mark with its branded pinot noir and was named 2013 NY Winery of the Year.
If you are looking for a "boutique" and intimate setting, you are sure to enjoy their tasting room, an old potato barn previously used as a horse stable. The concrete buttresses reinforcing the walls are a constant reminder of the North Fork's agricultural past.
What makes this vineyard a bit unique isn't their cozy tasting house or the fact that they have live music on weekends year round, but the fact that there is a Horse Sanctuary at Baiting Hollow.
Horse Sanctuary at Baiting Hollow Farm Vineyard (baitinghollowvineyard.com)
Founded in 2007 by Sharon Rubin Levine and Richard Rubin, this haven gives rescue horses a second chance. Rescue tours are available to visitors where they will behold former racehorses whose lineage traces back to legends like Secretariat and Man O' War and Admiral.
You can always check out our Entertainment & Events on this site or call us at 631-369-0100 should you wish to confirm what is going on.
I am all about atmosphere. As Tanya well knows, I will often sacrifice choices on a menu to have the "experience" of the ambiance.
Well, Jamesport winery is one such place. The tasting room at this winery is housed in a 165 year old barn! There are two bars - one located inside and the other outside, both overlooking the vineyard's 4-acre grounds.
An extensive Vineyard Menu is offered at Jamesport Vineyard (yelp.com)
Offering menu pairings (Food!!) made with fresh locally sourced ingredients with an emphasis on seasonal foods available on the North Fork and the East End of Long Island.
I know there are some BEER LOVERS among our readers and I would be remiss as I talk about "Drinking" options, not to include The Great Beer Expo, which is happening this weekend, at Belmont Park Racetrack.
This will be the 9th year for this event, where you can have a full day of tasting over 100 beers, ciders and wines!!
The Expo, a thirst-quenching pay-one-price beer tasting event, is held indoors on the concourse at the Belmont Park Racetrack and offers beer aficionados, beer lovers and the casual beer drinker the opportunity to speak to company representatives and the brewers responsible for creating some of the world’s most popular and award-winning brews.
Belmont Park Racetrack 2150 HEMPSTEAD TPKE, ELMONT, NEW YORK 11003 NOVEMBER 5, 2016 Time: Session 1: 12:30PM - 4:00PM ; Session 2: 5:30PM - 9:00PM Price: Varies (advanced ticket purchase required) Phone: 631-940-7290 http://www.greatbeerexpo.com
Lots happening folks!!
My girlies have a half day today, so we'll be hanging out - not sure as of yet what we'll be doing, but, I"m sure it will include food!
Then tomorrow we head out to the barn for a day of riding!
Enjoy this lovely weather!!
Tanya's Daily Scoop DEPARTING TODAY FOR: BIG SUR
A Surprise Guest
HAPPY FRIDAY YO!
It's about time again folks! Time to take a road trip!
We are all packed, loaded up and ready to go. Play list is set (which is super important on a road trip) and I grabbed some last minute supplies that we couldn't find during our shopping trip last night.
I also got an exciting call this morning...and found out that Mika can in fact come with us!
How totally exciting and makes this a COUSINS CAMPING TRIP for the kiddies.
So now there are 8 of us. We have our group of 4, plus Jet, Andrew, Chaplin and now Mika!!!
This will be the first trip ever that we are able to take Mika along with us. So so exciting. And boy is she STOKED!!
The last time that I traveled anywhere with her was back to New York for my Grandfather's funeral (2010) and she was a wee little thing.

And the last time that I traveled anywhere with Jet, Andrew and Chaplin was last year when we went to Joshua Tree National Park.

We are had a great time, but never I had ever seen Andrew enjoy himself so much! Chaplin was pretty stoked on it too and that was only her second time ever traveling with us (Dave & I) and her first time ever traveling with the kids.
In fact she had so much fun that as soon as we got home at her request she wanted me to start planning a camping trip to the "woods"!
And so I did. Because that is what I do!
However based on other circumstances this particular trip that was originally planned for July had to be postposed. And we also didn't have any takers when we were going in July.
So everything worked out quite perfectly... As it always does!
As a side note, the first time that Jet, Andrew and Chaplin had ever come with us was to Las Vegas for Labor Day back in 2012.

Well folks, I'm gonna hit the gym before we go, have the kids passport pictures taken and then load everybody up and hit the road!
