I'm still at home. We opted that it was in the best interest of the majority to leave early tomorrow morning instead of this afternoon. So I stretched out the time I took for packing and loading up the truck for our getaway.
We'll be hitting a few stores today, including Whole Foods for trip supplies, the sporting goods store, and REI (one of my personal FAVS).
A couple of weeks ago I tried on a jacket and really liked it. Well silly little me decided that I shouldn't get the jacket right then and there. WHY? Because I do ridiculous stuff like this all of the time. And then do you know what happens?? I can't stop thinking about the item and become OBSESSED!
Kuhl Flight Fleece Jacket
So anyhow, I HAD to have the jacket, and the easiest thing to do was order it online. Well it arrived, yet there was something off... I ordered it in the WRONG COLOR! The color options were so similar and obviously I chose the wrong one. So now I've got to go and exchange it. I guess that just means an extra visit to REI - so it's really not all that bad!
Being that I had longer at home than I had originally expected, I happily managed to get lots of work done and was rather productive if I may say so myself - and of course I can...because who's gonna stop me!
TODAY is FOODIE FRIDAY and being that Elisa is on the road, I'm not sure when she will publish this weeks new edition. But in the meantime (and I don't mean to use "mean" as a pun - if you catch me drift), you can read up on my review about the Santa Monica Restaurant ELOVATE and find out what I thought of it!
Well if you are following us on FaceBook (which you should be) then you would know that Elisa and the girls are on their way to Boston.
How fun is that?!
We had invited them to come up to Boston with us last year, but things didn't quite work out and their Boston trip couldn't happen until now.
I can't wait to hear all about it and to see their pictures (I know I'm gonna be jealous when I see the pictures!).
Speaking of being jealous from looking at pictures, my friend Chhai is exploring Peru right now, and I check FaceBook everyday to see if she posts anything new for me to be jealous of! LOL Peru was such an awesome trip and I really do look forward to the day I book our return trip!
From my Peruvian Adventure (2012)
I decided a while ago that Nov. and Dec. of this year was gonna be fairly local (only weekend getaways), and focus on the kids holiday performance schedule and all of the local festive holiday experiences!
This includes our annual Christmas Shopping in San Diego which in recent years has usually just been planned as a LONG day outing. So I got to looking at the calendar and noticed that so far the kids do not have any performances booked over the first weekend in December and so we figured that it was a good time to take advantage of the "free time" and book that weekend in San Diego.
So basically each and every weekend from last weekend until the weekend before Christmas is BOOKED as a getaway!
Here's what we have coming up in terms of getaways to look forward to:
Joshua Tree National Park - this weekend Yosemite National Park - next weekend Catalina Island - Thanksgiving weekend San Diego - first weekend in December Santa Barbara - second weekend in December
And in all of that we of course have Thanksgiving, Dominic's birthday, St. Nicholas Day, plenty of performances, and Mika's birthday to get through before the BIG DAY!
Tis the season!!!
Well I'm gonna go and finish up, and hopefully I'll get to bed at a reasonable time tonight and be bright eyed and bushy tailed for an early start in the morning!
Elisa's Daily Scoop CURRENTLY TRAVELING IN: BOSTON, MA
Boston...Here We Come!
So happy to say, we are off today to Boston! Me and the girls are getting an early start.
Today is going to be a busy day. Getting on the road early is never easy, but considering that the girls can just relax for the 4 hour drive, they were happy to cozy up in the car and chill out.
We loaded up with waters, snacks and music! I know Jason Derulo, Pitbull and a few Broadway play soundtracks, including Jersey Boys and Beautiful, are going to be part of our drive!
Before, I tell you about our plans for today, let me tell you a bit about my evening last night...
My long awaited Broadway evening with Al Pacino in China Doll was last night.
The evening did not turn out the way I had planned. I was supposed to pick up my Aunt Ro at 5:30, head into the Manhattan and have dinner at Scarpatto at 6:15.
Well, the best laid plans --- I hit a HUGE amount of traffic! I don't know what the deal was. Maybe it was the rain...I'm convinced people are somewhat mentally challenged on the road when there is any variation to the weather here in New York.
In any case, I didn't arrive to collect Aunt Ro until nearly 6:30. Then there was the inevitable traffic IN Manhattan. So, by the time we parked, it was 7:30!!! UGH!
The worst part was that we were STARVING! So, in lieu of dinner, I grabbed a pretzel off the street, which was stale and awful (at $4.00 each!!) and then scoffed down a bag of peanut M&M's in the theatre. (oh another $15 for 2 waters and the candy!).
I paid the price for the garbage fest later with a tummy ache.
Ok, so back to the show. Well, I will review China Doll, written by David Mamet in Monday's Entertainment review. BUT, what I will say is that it was NOT what I expected.
Don't get me wrong, Al Pacino was his usual amazing, entertaining, self. The play, however, had some inherent flaws that left me and other members of the audience a bit "unhappy," shall we say.
As far as today goes, I'm so excited that I woke up to sunshine!! Yay!! I love road trips when the day is brightly lit up.
I'll be getting these little kiddies in the car, hitting the deli for some breakfast, with the hope of arriving in Boston by lunch time.
A short walk from our hotel, where I'll drop off the car and bags and a quick 3-minute walk over to the Boston Tea Party ships & Museum.
I'm looking forward to finding a great historical fiction book there for Kelsey, on which she can do her book report project on!
We'll spend the latter part of the afternoon roaming through Faneuil Hall and then dinner.
I'm thinking the three of us might be in the mood to hit the fitness center in the hotel to end the evening - we'll see!
Kelsey was so excited to pack her new (much needed!!) clothes and boots from our mini shopping excursion yesterday. This kid has been growing like a weed!! All her pants turned into "floods" overnight and her shoes barely fit her.
She will be sporting her new duds for the first time this weekend!
Sporting one of her new stylish pairs of boots
Munching on Chicken nuggets
I'm off folks. Next stop...Boston.
See ya back here tomorrow - with lots of stuff to tell and tons of pictures!!
