A few of My "Where to Go's"Hello! Hope you are doing FAB today! Well here on Long Island, we are having some mighty cold weather! I can't say I mind it - it's actually quite refreshing. I know not everyone feels that way, but the way I look at it, you have to enjoy things you are experiencing to be happy. Wednesday again. So where to go, where to go! As you may know, Tanya and I started our "Where to Go Wednesday" series with local places in mind, for your near-to-home enjoyment when you are not traveling. Today, I thought I would share with you the Top 2 things I want to do in NYC over the next year: 1) Helicopter Ride around Manhattan Anyone up for joining me for this? I've always wanted to do this and I'm thinking Spring or Summer would probably be a good time. 2) Take a Picture in front these famous Photo Ops - Wall Street Bull (Wall Street, Financial District) - L-O-V-E Sign (1359 Avenue of the Americas) - Ghostbuster's Firehouse (14 North Moore Street, TriBeca) - Giant Needle & Button in The Garment Center - Hans Christian Anderson Statue (74th Street near 5th Avenue) - Alice in Wonderland Statue (Central Park) - Cleopatra's Needle (Upper East Side at 81st St.) - Red Cube (Marine Midland Plaza, 140 Broadway) Visiting the landmarks will be easy to find someone to join me. As far as the helicopter tour goes, I'm not sure it will be as easy to get someone to come along. It may be one of those things I do solo. I'll keep you in the loop as I check each of these off my list!! So, before I sign off for today, I wanted to share an interesting tidbit of information I came across today. According to an article about being happy in All You, travel is an important component in increasing your happiness. "While weekend getaways can be great; for a deeper feeling of joy, you can beat a long trip." - All YouThe reason longer trips - say, two-weeks are more beneficial to your overall happiness is because taking a quick trip produces an elation spike - a feelings of being happy on the way there; however, on the quick return home and to reality, the feelings of happiness drop just as fast. So the longer the trip, feelings of happiness last longer and provide an opportunity for more memories and prolonged happiness. A Dutch study referenced in this article "indicated that the bliss of a trip can start months before it (the trip) begins, owing to the anticipation." Makes me feel that much better about traveling - that I'm actually doing something for my long-term happiness!! What do you think of that, Cuz?? Well, I'm over and out - headed to a Brownie Girl Scout meeting for Kelsey's troop this afternoon. Hope your day is filled with happiness!!! -E | What a Day...Well well well, yesterday didn't exactly go as planned. I had planned for us to ski at Park City Resort, and when we had pulled up to the parking lot we found that the lot was completely FULL! The lot wasn't even full over the weekend! But apparently a whole lot of people and their mothers, fathers, sisters, and brothers had called out sick not wanting to miss the 17" of freshly dumped powder! So I figured that we'd change things up and go to the Canyons Resort instead, and try Park City Resort again today! We arrived at Canyons to find that it was also quite busy, but at least we managed to get a parking spot! And there are plenty of places on the mountain (Utah's largest resort) where it's easy to get away from the masses! After having a lovely day on the slopes, coming back to the lodge for a cup of nice hot cocoa in from of the fireplace and then taking the kids for dinner at Sage Vegetarian Cafe, my night kind of went awry. Well in fact, I had a rather depressing night. Ya see, I took my camera with us to the restaurant (or so I thought I did). Once we arrived at the restaurant I couldn't find my camera in the truck. This was odd, and quite bothersome, but I chose to assume I must've left camera in our room back at the lodge. And so, as soon as we pulled into the garage, we had searched around and under cars (in case it fell out before we got into the truck). Nothing. So then of course it must still be in the room! Well, we came in and searched high and low to find nothing. I went down to the front desk and nothing had been turned in. So needless to say (especially if you know me and know how important my pictures are to me), I had a rather depressing night, and I didn't sleep well (which I ALWAYS DO), although I did have a dream that I found my camera and I was sooooo HAPPY! But as of this writing, I am just plain 'ol sad and crying; and as much as I want to get out there and go skiing, I just don't feel into it. Sorry to be such a downer. But for me this is much worse than when I got hurt. So there you have it, I'm a bit out of sorts & so I'm not sure if we'll be skiing - negativity on the mountain has NEVER turned out to be a good day for me. I'm just glad that I've been sharing some pictures with you here on Travelin' Cousins and on FaceBook and I'll let you know how today goes in tomorrow's Daily Scoop! Peace out my friends, -T |
