Elisa's Daily Scoop NEXT TRIP DEPARTS IN: 2 DAYS
Dressing Stylish Doesn't Have to Cost a Fortune
I am so happy it's Saturday!
What a day yesterday was!!
I got on the road yesterday at 7:45am to drive the girls to the barn for their last day of riding camp for the month of July.
The weather was horrendous and the traffic was terrible. Between the pouring rain, fog, bad visibility and flooding, the morning commute to Manorville, Long Island was really brutal.
What's usually a 50 minute drive, at most, took us an hour and 40 minutes. Not to mention, the girls were 30 minutes late.
The rain was coming down when we pulled into the lot and of course, the ground was full of huge puddles and lots of mud. Yuk. I didn't even get out of the car. We said our goodbyes and I got right back on the road.
Last night, my girlies slept at their Dad's house, and being picked up by him after riding camp. Since I didn't have to hang out to drive them back home with me, I wanted to get back to my house as soon as I could so I could make the most of the day in continuing my obsession with organization and getting rid of stuff we don't use, that doesn't fit and that we don't need.
My pile keeps growing for my scheduled pick-up next month for the VA. I can't tell you how great it feels to donate these things to benefit and be utilized by the men and women who fought for our country and their families.
My kids have outgrown so many of their clothes and toys, but I just can't believe how much they've accumulated in their short lives! lol
I have to tell you, I realized this week that it's so not necessary to spend a fortune to look stylish.
The key is to take advantage of GREAT sales when they happen. So, since it's Shopping Saturday, here are some thoughts.
I'll give you an example. This past week, there was an incredible sale at NY & Company. If you are not familiar with this store, it is a Women's chain offering contemporary dresses, suits & separates, plus fashion accessories.
Well, their outlet store had an amazing 50% off sale on EVERYTHING!!!
As I was walking through the store and browsing, I spotted a rack with tank dresses for ...$12!!
This dress came in a whole variety of colors. Nothing extraordinary, but just cute and smart looking.
I decided to try it on in aqua. It actually fit well.
Ok, cut to, this adorable pair of sandals I got at the beginning of the Summer season for ... $49 (as a result of a sale and having coupons!!
Voila! for a total of less than $65, I have to say, I looked pretty cute.
Split-Neck Tunic Dress at NY & Co. $12.00
My Sandals - $29.99 (c)travelincousins.com

The best part is just how many complements I got the other day when I wore it!!
So, the moral of the story is, you don't have to pay a great deal of money to look nice!
Back to today - the girls are coming back later this evening and I'm thinking maybe we'll go to the movies.
Later this afternoon I'll be going to get my hair done. Fortunately, I had my mani-pedi last week so that's one less thing I have to do before going away.
I'm actually all packed - it was probably the easiest trip to pack for! Shorts, tanks & tees and two pairs of shoes.
I managed to get the girls packed as well, so we are all set to leave Monday morning!
See ya back here tomorrow!!!

Driving while Hungry
I had no clue that I would end up having no signal, no wifi, and being disconnected from the outside world. Completely UNPLUGGED! Luckily my kiddos were with me - I don't know what I would do if I couldn't be in touch with them.
Anyhoo, our Friday had started off with me finishing up some of the shopping needed for the trip, taking Cosette horseback riding...
And then hitting the road!
It was Dave C's birthday, and he came along for the fun.
We were starving, and I don't think that any of us could've waited until we got to the planned restaurant stop in Burbank, CA --- so we made an unplanned stop at our favorite little Vietnamese eatery Thein Dang. We each grabbed something quick and easy to eat on the drive.
Although this was meant to curb my appetite - all it did was make me more hungry!!! I couldn't wait to get to the restaurant and eat lot-o-food.
We arrived at the very bustling Golden Road Brewery and ordered away...
Next think you know, we had a table FULL of food and eventually needed some togo boxes.
But I was just so much happier to not be hungry anymore!
We surprised Dave and ordered him a Croissant Bread Pudding with a candle in it and sang Happy Birthday to him. But he was the only one who had indulged in dessert at the restaurant...
The rest of us, saved our sweet tooth for a stop at the nearby Yoga-urt and enjoys our treat on the road to the National Parks.
I lost signal as soon as we entered the gates of the park and had gone out of touch from that point on.
All in all, I'm pretty sure that Dave had a great birthday!
